In the early 20th Century Indian princes would send out their trusted employees with many chests of gold, pearls and emeralds to the top jewelers in New York where, over a period of months, Harry Winston and Tiffany would add diamonds and their skills to produce exquisite American exports to India. Even today one of America’s top exports to India is around jewelry, gemstones and precious metals; in fact India is the largest consumer of gold in the world.
At the other end of the spectrum, India is a major buyer of scrap from the United States: paper, steel, alloys, motors and much more. In fact there are demolition yards in India that also process ships at their end of life; even the scrap from the twin World Trade Center towers destroyed in the 9/11 attacks was exported to India for processing and recycling
